As a leading international supplier of crosslinkers, polyesters, performance resins, and colorants, Degussa’s Coatings & Colorants Business Unit is geared to the paint & coatings, printing ink and adhesives & sealants industries. Headquartered in Marl, Germany, this Business Unit employs 1,700 people at 10 production sites and posts annual sales of € 739 million.

The areas of application of Crosslinkers include solvent-free coatings for industrial flooring, light-stable and weather-resistant automotive and auto-refinish paints, and crosslinking of powder coatings, e.g. for decorative corrosion protection. Polyesters are used in hard, but flexible coil and can coatings, such as those for building exteriors, cans, and instrument panels. They are also used in industrial adhesives. Performance Resins improve the adhesion and flow behavior of coatings and adhesive systems and provide glossy and long-term corrosion protection.
The business line Colorants includes architectural and industrial colorants as well as color systems and sales aids. For example, just twelve colorants and four different white base colors allow more than 1,000 hues to be mixed either on in-plant or point-of-sales basis.

In keeping with the principles of sustainable development, research on future-oriented and sustainable coating technologies plays an important role in the Coatings & Colorants business unit. For example, the combination of emission-free powder technologies and low-temperature radiation curing provides an environmentally friendly yet highly efficient solution to the customer. We are developing universal colorants and color systems that are environmentally friendly and free from volatile organic components (VOC). We are working closely with our partners and customers at several levels of development and are creating marketable and intelligent system solutions by linking and pooling individual strengths within the Degussa Group.

Since January 1, 2006, the business line Tego Coating & Ink Additives is part of the Coatings & Colorant Business Unit. As a specialist for the paints and inks industry, Tego Coating & Ink Additives produces additives, waterproofing agents and heat-resistant silicone binding agents. In the field of additive development, the emphasis is on aqueous and radiation-cured printing inks and paints. Based on an efficient network of Technical Competence Centers with adjacent laboratories, Tego provides consultation to printing ink and paint manufacturers all over the world.
