In our Chemicals business segment we spent €304 million on R&D in 2006, a year-on-year increase of roughly 3 percent. We employed over 2,300 people in research and development at more than 35 sites worldwide. Our collaboration with universities and other institutions, in which we invested some €10 million in 2006, is becoming increasingly important. The number of patent applications has risen by roughly 350 to just under 20,000, and we have either registered or applied for some 7,500 trademarks.
